Which images convert best?
The converter extrudes the shape of your artwork, so bold designs with clear edges work best. For photos with shading, a lithophane captures the detail far better.
Logos and brand marks
Flat-color logos on a plain or transparent background convert cleanly into a raised logo on a plaque.
Text and lettering
Names, signs and quotes. Keep strokes bold: lines thinner than 0.8 mm at your print size won't print well.
Icons and silhouettes
Pet silhouettes, icons, emblems and clip art become crisp outlines with smooth edges.
SVG artwork
SVG files are rendered sharply in your browser first, so vector logos give the cleanest edges.
Settings explained
- Size
- The longest side of your artwork in millimetres. The base plate margin is added around it.
- Relief height
- How far the artwork stands up from the base — 1.5–3 mm reads well on signs.
- Base plate
- Rounded or rectangle plaque, a base that follows the outline of your logo, or none (separate letters).
- Detect artwork
- Auto uses transparency or the background color. Pick dark-on-light or light-on-dark when auto guesses wrong.
- Threshold
- Where artwork ends and background begins. Watch the live preview until only your design is purple.
- Edge smoothing
- Rounds jagged pixels from low-resolution images. Use 0 for pixel-perfect geometric logos.
PNG, JPG or SVG: which format should you use?
SVG is best for logos: it's rendered at high resolution before conversion, so curves stay smooth at any size. Transparent PNG is next — the background is removed automatically. JPGworks for graphics on a plain background; add a little edge smoothing to hide compression noise.
Whatever the format, upload the largest version you have. A logo that's 1,000 pixels or more across gives crisp edges even on a 200 mm sign.

How do I convert a PNG to STL?
Drop the PNG into the converter above, adjust the size, relief height and base plate while watching the live preview, then click Generate STL. You get a watertight STL you can download or send straight to our print service. Transparent PNGs work best because the background is removed automatically.
Can I convert an SVG to STL?
Yes. SVG files are rendered at high resolution in your browser and then converted like any other image, so vector logos give the crispest edges. Text in the SVG should be converted to outlines in your design tool first.
Does JPG to STL work?
Yes, for logos and graphics on a plain background. JPG compression adds noise around edges, so raise edge smoothing a notch. Photos of people or scenes don't make good extrusions — use the lithophane maker for photos instead.
Is the image to STL converter free?
Yes. You can convert up to 20 images a day without an account and download the STL files. If you want the model printed, you can get an instant quote from the result page.
Is the STL watertight and ready to slice?
Every model is checked before it's offered: closed, manifold and with consistent normals, so it slices without errors in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer and Cura.
What happens to my image?
Your image is converted in memory and never stored. The generated STL is kept for 24 hours so you can download it, then deleted.
Can I use the STL commercially?
The STL is generated from your image, so the rights follow your image: if you own the logo or artwork (or have permission), you can use the model however you like.
