Tips for printable 3D text
- Bold fonts print best. Thin strokes under 0.8 mm can break or disappear.
- 1–2 mm letter height is plenty on a plate; more makes small letters fragile.
- Two colors look great: choose Two colors (when available) to get a 3MF with the plate and letters already assigned to two filaments — or print the STL and swap filament at the top of the plate.
- Loose letters (no base) print flat and stay strong; glue them in place afterwards.

How do I turn text into an STL?
Type up to three lines in the generator above, pick a font, the text width and letter height, and choose a base plate or a desk wedge. The preview updates as you type; click Generate STL to get a watertight file you can download or send to our print service.
Which fonts can I use?
Bold, regular, italic, small caps and a typewriter style. They're chosen to print cleanly: strokes stay thick enough for a 0.4 mm nozzle at normal sign sizes.
How big should the letters be?
Keep letters at least 5 mm tall and raise them 1–2 mm. For small text, make the plate wider or use the bold font — the tool warns you when strokes get thinner than 0.8 mm.
Can I make a desk name plate that stands up?
Yes. Choose “Desk wedge” and set the angle (25° reads well from a chair). The plate becomes a solid wedge with the name on the sloped face — no separate stand needed.
