Titles for pharmacists and technicians

Pharmacists usually show their degree and license on line two: “PharmD”, “RPh” or “PharmD, RPh”. Some add a board certification such as “BCPS”. Pharmacy technicians certified through PTCB or NHA typically use “CPhT”; others use “Pharmacy Technician” or the title their state registration gives them.

Many state boards of pharmacy require pharmacists, interns and technicians to wear a name tag showing their title while on duty. Check your state's rules and your employer's policy before ordering — we print exactly what you type.

Clear roles at the counter

Patients often can't tell who is a pharmacist and who is a technician or cashier. A clear title on line two helps them ask the right person about their medication, and a different finish for pharmacists — for example Silver or Gold for pharmacists and White for technicians — makes the difference visible from across the counter.

Care and cleaning

Wipe badges with mild soap and water and a soft cloth. Strong alcohol and solvent cleaners can cloud or craze acrylic over time, so test any disinfectant on the back of the badge first.

Magnet or pin back?

Magnet back

  • No holes in shirts, scrubs or blazers
  • Quick to move between outfits
  • Best on light and medium-weight fabric

Pin back

  • Holds firmly on thick knits, fleece and aprons
  • Slightly lower price
  • No magnet — suitable near implanted medical devices

Pacemaker or ICD? Choose the pin back. Device manufacturers advise keeping magnets away from implanted cardiac devices, and a name badge sits close to the chest.

Ordering for a team

Add one badge per person: type their name and title, click “Add to cart”, then type the next name. In the badge maker your logo and design stay set between names, so every badge matches. Each person becomes a separate line in your cart, so nothing gets mixed up. For long lists, email the names and titles toinfo@avdeb.com and we'll help you put the order together.

Frequently asked questions

What should a pharmacist's name tag say?

Your name on line one and your degree or license on line two — “PharmD”, “RPh” or both. Check your state board's rules for any required wording.

What title goes on a pharmacy technician name badge?

Certified technicians usually use “CPhT”. Otherwise use “Pharmacy Technician” or the title your state registration uses.

Do pharmacy staff have to wear name tags?

Many state boards of pharmacy require it, often with the person's title. Requirements differ by state, so check your board's rules and your employer's dress code.

Can you put our pharmacy logo on the badges?

Yes. Upload it in our badge maker when you order — it replaces the Rx icon on the preview — or email it to info@avdeb.com with your order number.

Are magnetic name tags safe if I have a pacemaker?

Choose the pin back if you have a pacemaker or ICD. Device manufacturers advise keeping magnets away from implanted cardiac devices.

Can we order badges for the whole pharmacy team?

Yes. Add one badge per person with their own name and title, or email the list to info@avdeb.com and we'll help you place the order.
