What to put on a teacher name badge

Most teachers use the name students call them on line one — a title and last name like “Mrs. Johnson” — so new students, substitutes and parents learn it quickly. Line two holds a grade, subject or role: “Kindergarten”, “7th Grade Math”, “Library Media”, “Special Education”.

Rather show your school? Put its name on line two instead (up to 35 characters) — “Lincoln Elem.” reads better on a small badge than the full district name — or upload the school logo in the badge maker to replace the apple.

Magnet or pin on teacher clothes

Magnets suit blouses, button-up shirts and lanyard-free days because they leave no holes. On heavy cardigans and sweaters a magnet can sag or slide, so many teachers pick a pin back for the colder months — or one of each.

Badges for the whole school

Schools often order one style for every staff member at the start of the year, with the role on line two — teacher, aide, nurse, counselor, office staff. Add each person's badge to the cart separately, or email the staff list to info@avdeb.com and we'll help you put the order together. They also make a simple, personal gift for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Magnet or pin back?

Magnet back

  • No holes in shirts, scrubs or blazers
  • Quick to move between outfits
  • Best on light and medium-weight fabric

Pin back

  • Holds firmly on thick knits, fleece and aprons
  • Slightly lower price
  • No magnet — suitable near implanted medical devices

Ordering for a team

Add one badge per person: type their name and title, click “Add to cart”, then type the next name. In the badge maker your logo and design stay set between names, so every badge matches. Each person becomes a separate line in your cart, so nothing gets mixed up. For long lists, email the names and titles toinfo@avdeb.com and we'll help you put the order together.

Frequently asked questions

What should a teacher's name tag say?

Usually the name students use (“Mrs. Johnson”) on line one and the grade or subject on line two. To show the school instead, type its name on line two or swap the apple for the school logo.

Are magnetic name tags good for teachers?

Yes for shirts and blouses — no holes and easy to move between outfits. On thick cardigans and sweaters choose a pin back, which holds more firmly.

Can I put our school logo on the badge?

Yes. Upload it in our badge maker when you order and it replaces the apple on the preview — or email it to info@avdeb.com with your order number. Check that your school allows its logo on staff-purchased items.

Is a name badge a good teacher gift?

It's a practical one: it's personalized, used every day, and easy to order for a whole grade team. Check the spelling of the teacher's name and title with the school office first.

Can we order badges for all our school staff?

Yes. Add one badge per person with their own name and role, or email a staff list to info@avdeb.com and we'll help you place the order.

Can I order a badge for substitute teachers?

Yes. Many schools keep a few generic badges such as “Substitute Teacher” or “Guest Teacher” with the school name. Type the title on line one and the school name on line two.
